The Buddha
The word 'Buddha' is not a name, but a title, which means 'one who is awakened one or enlightened one' in the sense of having 'woken up to reality'. In general, When the term 'Buddha' is used, it refers to the historical Buddha, the founder of Buddhism, who was born as Siddhartha Gautama in Nepal 2,500 years ago. He did not claim to be a God and he has never been regarded as such by his followers. He was a human being who became Enlightened, understanding life in the deepest possible way.

- Bodh Gaya (his enlightenment),
- Sarnath (his first sermon),
- Rajgir & Saravasti (where he spent 25 monsoons after enlightenment),
- Vaishali (his last sermon),
- Kushinagar (his mahaparinirvana - final exit),
- Patna (cremation site).
